Google co-founder Larry Page accuses Steve Jobs of “rewriting history” when the Apple CEO says that Google followed Apple into the smartphone market. Page insists that Google had been developing phones long before Apple unveiled the iPhone in 2007. Although Google did buy out a small firm called Android a few years prior to the 1st generation iPhone launch, early prototypes of Android shown in late 2007 were reminiscent of BlackBerrys. More »

Woz was enthralled with his Google Nexus One when he purchased it, and although he still loves Android’s useful voice recognition, he thinks that its open source foundation (ironically) makes it too similar to Windows, an operating system that tries to do everything but staggers at doing anything well. From Htcyou: An unseemly Dell Mini 3v smartphone has popped up on TENAA China, which has just approved the device. There is no concrete proof that the gold accentuated phone is an Android, but why would it be anything else? More »

When Microsoft retired the KIN quasi-smartphones after they had been on sale for barely a few months, everyone recognized the project as a monumental failure. Just how big of a catastrophe the KIN has been can be summed up in one number: 503, the alleged sales figure of both the KIN One and Two. More »

From Htcyou: T-Mobile specialist TMO News has the first real look at what I consider to be an interesting smartphone because of its free with contract pricing and unconventional layout, having a 4-row QWERTY keypad that is not a slider. Apparently, based on the limited page hits to Motorola Charm/Basil posts, I gather that few people are as intrigued as I am. More »

Barely having time to settle itself into Verizon’s strong roster, the Microsoft KIN, which was supposed to smarten up cell phones (but instead dumbed down smartphones), has been canceled, although current stock will (probably) be liquidated. European launch of the KIN has obviously been canned. More »

From Htcyou: Instead, put the blame squarely on your carrier/handset manufacturer. Why? Because when Google released the open source code of Android 2.2 FroYo a couple of days ago, Tim Bray remarked that with FroYo, developers can “build and boot a fully open-source system image out of the box, for the emulator, as well as for Dream (ADP1), Sapphire (ADP2).” What this means is that even an old dog (the eldest of all Androids) can officially be programmed to run Android 2.2. …and the best news is that it is based off Google’s Android! Altek’s Leo is running Eclair 2.1 and uses a 1/2.3-inch CCD image sensor (similar to dedicated digicams) with Xenon and LED flashlights for capturing 14-megapixel of digital glory. More »

That is correct: Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, the P1000 model, looks like it is a smartphone in addition to being a primary multimedia tablet (like the Dell Streak). Can you imagine people making calls on the P1000’s Super-AMOLED 7-inch display? More »

Come June 19th, T-Mobile is celebrating Father’s Day with a one-day only promotion that discounts all of the company’s phones, including the priciest Android and BlackBerry models, at four-figures –that is right, free. Of course, such a sweet deal is attached to a big stipulation. More »

From Htcyou: Gadget leaks have more cachet when they are photographed beside other similar products for size comparison. It seems like the Motorola Droid Xtreme, aka the Droid X, has been shown off by everyone except the company that actually manufactures the device. Despite having a half-inch smaller screen than the gigantic 4.3″ HTC Evo 4G, the Droid X is longer… More »

From Htcyou: Before the end of the year, Motorola will have an Android 2.2 FroYo smartphone that is powered by a 2GHz processor (battery life grimaces) with NVIDIA’s Tegra chip. Stateside, Motorola has kept fairly quiet in the midst of paramount launches from closest Android rival HTC, but with the Droid Xtreme, Droid 2, and the 2GHz model set for Q3-Q4 releases, the American phone corporation should strike back intensely. You may have heard about high end Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin’s $12,800 to $49,500 Chairman smartphone with Google Android 2.1, but today, you can watch it being promoted by the company that will try to convince you into purchasing one. I dislike the non-slide-out QWERTY keypad. More »

From Htcyou: Eventually, every carrier in the world will have a Google Android smartphone. Metro PCS is on tap to receive a lower end QWERTY slider from Motorola that runs Eclair. More »
