From Htcyou: Here is an obscure one: small, privately owned Saygus unveiled its VPhone, which is the world’s first two-way video calling smartphone, and it packs some pretty good specifications as well –including a 3.5″ (800 x 480) LCD, Marvell PXA310 800MHz CPU, 5 megapixel camera, and a full QWERTY keypad; it even has a modem! It seems that the hyped up Google Nexus One smartphone that was recently released is not receiving as much love as Google had expected. Customer complaints are starting to roll in about the inconsistent 3G connectivity, issues regarding the touch screen, and the poor customer service to deal with it all. The main root of the customer service issue has to do with the fact that the Nexus One can only be purchased through the Google online store and not at any T-Mobile retail locations. More »

From Htcyou: No, smartphone owners are not being attacked by Greeks, but by trojans that mimic what dialler scams did back in the 56K modem days. “Swapi.B” is a pervasive trojan, which masks as a video file or some harmless program. Usually, the trojan is downloaded from pornographic sites. Once run, Swapi.B sends out premium SMS messages, and the smartphone user is nailed with a hefty long distance/premium text message charge. Crooks once used this con to prey on unsuspecting modem users back in the late 1990s. More »
