From Htcyou: Tablets are seen as the more convenient option to carrying a bulky laptop around and more substantial than a small smartphone. Nobody could have predicted the massive impact that they have made on our lives and by 2017, it is predicted that 383.3 million units will have been purchased. More »

OK, the word “obsolete” is overused and misused (as in this headline), but “Oak Trail” is the next Intel Atom platform that will power Windows 7 and Google Android tablets and slates beginning Q1 2011. Oak Trail is more energy efficient (particularly crucial for tablets), has lower TDP, is 40% smaller, and 30% thinner than Menlow. Furthermore, Oak Trail features on-chip HD video decoding that will enable tablets to play 720p/1080p film without slowdown. More »

Projections are through the roof for iPad sales after Apple announced that it has sold more than 2 million units globally. While the iPad has been on sale for almost 2 months in the States, it hit retailers before this weekend in Canada, much of Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia, where it was welcomed with open arms. Released last week, the neofonie WePad is off to a running start. Amazon Germany had the Linux based slate as the top selling product at one point, although now it has dropped to number 7. From the average of 9 reviewers, the WePad has been given an unspectacular 3.5 out of 5 stars. More »

In a minor tragedy for gadgetry, Microsoft has officially put the Courier tablet on indefinite hold, stating that it has “no plans to build such a device at this time.” It was too good to be true. Microsoft is still pursuing more tradition slate tablets, but the Courier was so amazing in its rendered videos. More »

I have always considered MSI to be the value conscious PC geek’s brand. None of the company’s designs is flashy, but reliability is usually solid, and so is price to performance. The GE600 is an $899.99 gaming laptop that has a 16″ LCD at 1366×768 pixels, which is actually a good resolution because it enables the middling Radeon Mobility 5730 to keep up nicely. More »

HP finally emerged from the Palm sweepstakes and paid $1.2 billion for the buy-out. According to the press release, Jon Rubinstein and many of the key executives will remain in position after the HP takeover, and Engadget states that Palm’s hardware roadmap remains unchanged for the present. What we will see in the short term are HP branded phones, with webOS netbooks and tablets probably appearing next year. More »

neofonie’s WePad had an inauspicious start when it was discovered that its press conference showcased a prototype that was merely running a video, not the custom Linux operating system, which was hailed. The German group tried to calm suspicions about the tablet and invited the press to a demonstration of the WePad in full working form. More »

What differentiates Hanvon’s Touchpad F10 from the HP Slate? Aside from the bigger, 10.1″ screen? Pretty much nothing. Like the HP, the F10 is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom (Z530), has a low-resolution of 1024×600, 1Gb RAM (though the F10’s is expandable), and Windows 7. More »
