George Whitesides is a Chemistry professor at Harvard University, and his recent work seems to have the potential to change the way diagnostic medicine works. Dr. Whitesides and his team have recently developed a prototype “paper chip” that is capable of diagnosing multiple disease simply with the application of a blood drop. More »

Popular singer/songwriter John Mayer announced today that he’ll be partaking in a digital cleanse. From Jan. 1 at 9 a.m. to Jan. 8 at 9 am, he’ll be restricting his use of…technology. He insists that while we usually defrag our computers, it’d be a great idea to defrag our “mental and psychological hard drives.” According to John Mayer, technology has done our brains a disservice in the way we now handle small bursts of information via Twitter, text and email. The digital cleanse will help our brains. Read on for details of John Mayer’s Digital Cleanse. More »

From Girlybubble: Technology hasn’t always been chic. I remember the dark days when it was more function over form. Aesthetically, fashionable consumers had limited choices. However, those days are over, and this year has brought us technology that is not only functional, but cute and colorful as well. Here’s my list of Top 10 Girl Gadgets of 2009. More »

Not only is Sin City forever known to me as a place most sacred in my heart of hearts, it’s also the home of the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show. CES, for short. Set to happen Jan 7-10, this year’s CES show is boasting a record number of tech exhibitors: 2,500 exhibitors showcasing all their latest wares for 2010! Makes me wonder — is three days even enough? Is it possible to visit every exhibitor? More »

So, you’re a dude. There’s a girl you want to make the first move on, but are hopelessly clueless because for one, girls are complicated and so is technology. San Francisco Weekly’s How to Make The First Move 2.0 chart demonstrates clearly what technology and methods of communication to avoid when it comes to making the first move. More »

“What’s Gmail?”

That was the question that someone at the gym asked me last week. Being around so much technology and gadgets, I found the question extremely odd. Who didn’t know about Gmail? I explained what Gmail was to the person, a lady in her 30’s. Afterward, it got me thinking, if something as popular as Gmail is not known to people who are still relatively young, then what other advancement in tech don’t people know about. And we’re not talking about really old people, we’re talking about educated, folks in their twenties and 30’s. So, to make this a little more interesting, I went around and asked a few people at a bar I went with a few friends this past week. I asked 20 people about Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, Digg, iPhone and Android. Here are the results. More »

Protecting your home just got easier and a lot more fun with FaceID, the new way to enter and leave your home. FaceID is the coolest new technology to come to home security systems, leaving passwords, swipe card, retina, and fingerprint scanning systems in the dust. Technology is a great thing, especially when it helps us do things, from shopping to earning us our yearly income but the real problem is that its been contributing to the obesity problem in the United States. These days, kids come home from school, only to plop down on the couch in front of the TV for hours, eating junk and playing video games until dinner time. More »

Benjamin Button is finally getting a toy to play with, the MyRacer Q10. This portable media player has all of the latest media tech in there, its just masked by the old 1970’s stylings. This retro PMP, with the protruding knob is definitely an attention grabber although the features are pretty standard. This device supports all major formats, ranging from DivX, Xvid, MP3, AAC, and WMA. More »

Remember when Doc Oc flung cars with ease across the street in Spiderman 2, well now we may be able to do the same with the new Power Loader Exoskeleton being built in Kyoto, Japan. While you won’t be able to throw cars with it, you will be able to lift up to 220 pounds, which is still a lot of weight.

The dual armed amplification robot uses 18 electromagnetic motors and also has force feed (Force Feed is something that gives us feedback as a type of force during an interaction with something). Unfortunately, the Power Loader Exoskeleton is still in its developmental stage and won’t be in the market until 2015. Check out the video of the Power Loader in use while you wait (after the break). We currently in a digital age but one school is taking it to the next level. Cushing Academy, a Boston prep school, is redesigning their entire library, and turning it digital to keep up with the times. The school is updating its library by getting rid of all the books and replacing it with three flat screen televisions, a coffee bar, eighteen eReaders, and laptops. According to James Tracy, the headmaster, books are “outdated technology.”

While Tracy may be right, books are outdated technology, completely getting rid of them is probably not the smartest move. To fill a library with a few laptops, 18 eReaders (only 18?! WTF) and some TVs are not going to help kids do actual research. Books are always going to have the best source of information for any kind of research and its extremely easy to cheat and write a paper using online sources. More »

Contact lenses are quickly covering the tracks of glasses as they become a part of the past, but these contact lenses won’t be making onto eyes anytime soon. Just the thought of your eyes providing you with analytical information can flabbergast anyone.

‘Augmented Lenses’ is quickly becoming the newest vision correcting technology as trial and error tests are being conducted and the machinery in itself is on its way. In the lenses, there is a prototype that allows the user to see single crystal silicon components, compound semiconductor components, radio chips, minuscule antennae, and an LED. More »

This probably fell out of James Bond’s cache. A tiny robots, smaller than a fingernail has been created and is being called the I-Swarm. These self contained robots run on energy from their built in solar cells, for anytime use. They are controlled by tiny infrared control signals which makes it easy for them to be tracked and kept in order.

The robot has four legs, three to hep it navigate and the fourth one is used as a sensor to find objects and other robots. The robots are also equipped with ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) which allows the robots to be used for micromanufacturing, medical procedures, cleaning or surveillance. I’m sure James Bond won’t mind losing a few of these. After all, it is helping mankind. More »
