GPS systems are great devices to give as Christmas and birthday presents. They help guide you to where you need to go, and they make re-routing traffic a breeze but consumers are fed up with GPS systems. Why, you may ask? Well, the voices on the GPS systems are usually the most boring voices on the planet, whether it be a robotic male or female voice but TomTom has does something great to help cure our boredom by adding “VoiceSkins” to the GPS systems. Guess what folks, the Tom Tom iPhone application is officially in the iTunes App Store. If you’re looking for turn-by-turn directions on your iPhone then it’s available. The store has region specific TomTom apps starting with New Zealand for $95, Australia ($80), US and Canada ($100) and Western Europe for $140.
Keep in mind these apps do not include the TomTom iPhone care kit, which was rumored to come bundled with the app for around $194. The kit mounts your iPhone to the dashboard or windshield for easier access. It’s been quite a wait for the TomTom app to be released but don’t buy the app until some reviews start pouring in. The TomTom GPS for the iPhone may end up costing around $200. That’s according to U.K. retailer Handtec, which is currently taking pre-orders for the iPhone app and kit for $164, and suggests a U.S. retail price might around $200. More »
