Although this doesn’t come as a surprise, it’s still depressing. According to AllThingsD, HP will be cutting 500 jobs at the webOS department. Now that the TouchPad, Pre 3 and the small group of webOS devices that made it to market will be their last. HP has announced their intentions to continue supporting existing webOS customers. Rising from the ashes of apparent cancellation is the Windows 7 HP slate, which is now confirmed for autumn release but will be repackaged for enterprise instead of the consumer market. The PalmPad, running webOS is also in the pipeline. More »


When HP bought out Palm, it signaled the end of the 8.9-inch HP Slate that was based on Windows 7. HP realized that a successful tablet had to follow the iPad, and that means running an operating system, which is more appropriate. More »


It has been a long and painful journey, but Adobe has finally given Flash 10.1 to its mobile platform partners using the following operating systems: “Android, BlackBerry, webOS, Windows Phone 7 Series, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian.” Flash 10.1 on Android requires 2.2 FroYo, which is unofficially available for Google’s Nexus One and will be run on many Android smartphones by Q4 of this year. Although HP’s Slate has glaring shortcomings - 1024×600 screen, Atom processor - quite a few people have been looking forward to it as an iPad alternative. It now looks like HP is canceling the Windows 7 Slate and may forgo using Intel processors for all future tablets. More »


HP finally emerged from the Palm sweepstakes and paid $1.2 billion for the buy-out. According to the press release, Jon Rubinstein and many of the key executives will remain in position after the HP takeover, and Engadget states that Palm’s hardware roadmap remains unchanged for the present.
