From Htcyou: Not a phone but a portable media player (PMP), Philips’ GoGear Connect looks similar to the GoGear Muse MP3/multimedia player and runs Android 2.1. Philips plans for the device to launch in July. If the Muse is any indication of pricing, the Connect should be relatively affordable compared to the iPod. With Android 2.1 as the OS, the iPod Touch might finally have a serious challenger outside of the Zune HD and Cowon S9. More »

From Htcyou: Adobe has confirmed that it will demonstrate Flash 10.1 on the Motorola Droid, the Nexus One, and also the Palm Pre. As reported earlier this week, Microsoft will showcase its next version of mobile Windows, called Windows Phone 7. More »

Rumors are plentiful as Mobile World Congress (Barcelona February 15th) looms closer. The Zune HD has long been speculated to be the device on which Microsoft would build its own smartphone. Now, PPC Geeks is putting its reputation on the line and is making bold claims about insider knowledge surrounding Windows Phone 7. More »
A few weeks ago, it was rumored that Microsoft was releasing newer versions of their Zune HD, in different colors. Well, today’s latest gadget news brought a smile to many faces, when the new purple and magenta models were introduced. Microsoft added these new colors to appeal to different users, with the already existing colors, available in platinum, black, green, red and blue. Unfortunately, for those who purchase these special colors, a 16GB and 32GB flash memory is available only, so get ready to dish out a bit more cash. More »
The rumor mill is hot today after rumors of possible Microsoft branded phones and tablet. The news is still murky but this is what we have now:
- 9to5mac says there are two Microsoft branded phones, codenamed Project Pink, to be introduced possibly as early as CES in January. The two devices, one named “Turtle”, and the other, “Pure”, both show signs of possible smartphones. The Turtle shows a microphone and slide-out keyboard, while the Pure seems to have the design of a candy bar style design.
- ZDNet offered their own opinion on the rumors. According to them, “Pink” refers to a Microsoft branded phone that will offer premium features. This means the phone will be manufactured by someone else, most likely Danger, the makers of the Sidekick, which Microsoft acquired in February.
There’s also the tablet rumors going around, which 9to5mac says are “much, much bigger and juicier.” All these rumors are just that, rumors but usually they hold some truth. If Microsoft were to start manufacturing their own phones and release their own tablet, they’ll be giving Apple some serious competition in the technology and manufacturing department, but can they compete with Apple in the hardware sales department? Microsoft’s Zune HD gets torn apart and sliced by the people over at iFixit. It actually hurt to see this beautiful device being sliced into pieces. The more I see the Zune HD the more I want it. I’m really close to getting it. Here’s some pictures from the iFixit post. More »
Zune HD was released yesterday without much fan fare unlike it’s Apple counterpart. But like the iPod Touch, the Zune HD has been getting positive reviews across the board. The touch screen with great user interface might give music fans something else to consider when looking to buy a music player. Without further ado, here are some in-depth, hands on reviews of the Microsoft Zune HD: More »
If you haven’t been swept up in Apple news lately, you’ll know that Microsoft is set to release their Zune HD tomorrow. The Zune HD will be the only PMP available from Microsoft, as the regular Zunes will no longer be manufactured.
Dell, is making the Zune HD even more attractive offering 15% off the MSRP. That’s a pretty good deal for a brand new device. If you’ve been deciding which device to get, between the Zune and the new iPod Touch, maybe Dell’s 15% off will make you lean towards the Zune HD. More »
Official word out of the Microsoft camp is they will not be selling the Zune HD outside of the United States. A Microsoft spokesperson had this to say to ArsTechnica:
“For the time being the Zune HD device will remain US-only. Right now we are focused on deploying an exciting service in the form of Zune Video to 18 markets. We are looking at potential future hardware experiences for these markets, but do not have anything to announce right now.”
The original Zune never hit the overseas market either. The closest Microsoft came to releasing the Zune was releasing it in Canada and that hardly counts as overseas. After the Zune HD was announced, Microsoft made another announcement earlier this month saying the original Zune models (4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 80GB, and 120GB) were no longer going to be sold, which meant the Zune HD is going to be the only music player available from Microsoft. In a not-so surprising move, both Sony and Microsoft want apps and an app store for their platforms and are now targeting iPhone developers. First, let’s talk about Microsoft. With the Zune HD announcement, Microsoft made it clear they’re willing to compete with the iPod Touch and have created a marvelous device but the Zune fails where the iPod Touch succeeds, the availability of apps. But Microsoft wants to change that. John Gruber, Daring Fireball, says he received an email from an iPhone developer who was contacted by Microsoft to bring his Twitter app over to the Microsoft, possibly for the Zune HD for ” a bucket of money.” More »
Now that Microsoft has given us the official release date for the Zune HD, there’s rumors swirling about the impending Apple iPod Event taking place on September 7th, around the same time it’s been held in previous years. Microsoft missed out on a great opportunity to upstage Apple with their Zune HD, if they could have released it a week or two before Apple’s iPod event but in Microsoft fashion, they’ll find themselves looking up at Apple once again. Microsoft Zune HD has hit the net with a bunch of early reviews. Some of the prominent online tech sites have gotten a chance to play with the device and they’ve written a few things about the device. Most of the reviews are positive and think the Microsoft Zune HD has a chance to compete with Apple’s iPod Touch. More »
