Microsoft’s stab at semi-smartphones is a mess. First of all, the prices are inexplicable: on $70 per month voice and data Verizon contracts, the Kin ONE is $50 and the TWO $100 after $100 rebates. If the phones were special, then shelling out $70 monthly might be worthwhile, but they are not. More »

Not much has been added to the Zune HD that was released last year, but the 64Gb model solidifies itself as one of the top portable media players. Right now, the 64Gb Zune HD is back-ordered until May 30th. More »

Two new Sharp manufactured phones were announced today by Microsoft. The KIN ONE and KIN TWO smartphones are differentiated from Windows Phone 7 by their simplicity and completely closed system. The KIN series combines smartphone advancements like multi-touch, Silverlight web-browsing, and eye-popping visuals from Zune HD’s interface with a simplified operating system that has no third-party apps, much like standard cell phones. Both CDMA phones are arriving on Verizon’s network in May, with Vodafone getting them in the fall. There is also a GSM version of the KIN ONE that will make the rounds in Europe and Asia. More »

Microsoft’s Mix10 conference confirms many crucial things about the company’s agenda: it is turning into Apple but is late to the game. Droves of smartphone zealots are excited about Windows Phone 7’s prospects, yet much of what Microsoft is doing already exists, and worst of all, quite a few of the complaints about Apple’s iPhone will not be addressed by WP7. Charlie Kindel (not Amazon Kindle) of Microsoft played with his Windows Phone 7 prototype yesterday, and while the user interface looks fancy, there is not anything terribly new or exciting. More »

From Htcyou: Not a phone but a portable media player (PMP), Philips’ GoGear Connect looks similar to the GoGear Muse MP3/multimedia player and runs Android 2.1. Philips plans for the device to launch in July. If the Muse is any indication of pricing, the Connect should be relatively affordable compared to the iPod. With Android 2.1 as the OS, the iPod Touch might finally have a serious challenger outside of the Zune HD and Cowon S9. More »

From Htcyou: Adobe has confirmed that it will demonstrate Flash 10.1 on the Motorola Droid, the Nexus One, and also the Palm Pre. As reported earlier this week, Microsoft will showcase its next version of mobile Windows, called Windows Phone 7. More »

Rumors are plentiful as Mobile World Congress (Barcelona February 15th) looms closer. The Zune HD has long been speculated to be the device on which Microsoft would build its own smartphone. Now, PPC Geeks is putting its reputation on the line and is making bold claims about insider knowledge surrounding Windows Phone 7. More »
A few weeks ago, it was rumored that Microsoft was releasing newer versions of their Zune HD, in different colors. Well, today’s latest gadget news brought a smile to many faces, when the new purple and magenta models were introduced. Microsoft added these new colors to appeal to different users, with the already existing colors, available in platinum, black, green, red and blue. Unfortunately, for those who purchase these special colors, a 16GB and 32GB flash memory is available only, so get ready to dish out a bit more cash. More »
The rumor mill is hot today after rumors of possible Microsoft branded phones and tablet. The news is still murky but this is what we have now:
- 9to5mac says there are two Microsoft branded phones, codenamed Project Pink, to be introduced possibly as early as CES in January. The two devices, one named “Turtle”, and the other, “Pure”, both show signs of possible smartphones. The Turtle shows a microphone and slide-out keyboard, while the Pure seems to have the design of a candy bar style design.
- ZDNet offered their own opinion on the rumors. According to them, “Pink” refers to a Microsoft branded phone that will offer premium features. This means the phone will be manufactured by someone else, most likely Danger, the makers of the Sidekick, which Microsoft acquired in February.
There’s also the tablet rumors going around, which 9to5mac says are “much, much bigger and juicier.” All these rumors are just that, rumors but usually they hold some truth. If Microsoft were to start manufacturing their own phones and release their own tablet, they’ll be giving Apple some serious competition in the technology and manufacturing department, but can they compete with Apple in the hardware sales department?
